PRIESTLY MINISTRY: A MEANS OF SANCTIFICATION
In a Spiritual Recollection for the priests of Kumbo Deanery, Rev. Fr Evans Shang, S.D (Ph.D.), a priest of Kumbo Diocese and preacher of the Recollection reminded the clerics of the essential aspect of their ministry: as a means of sanctification. This was on Tuesday 9th June 2020 at the St. Augustine’s College Chapel. This is the first time in six months since the priests of Kumbo Deanery are meeting for such a spiritual gathering.
Fr. Shang continued to thrill the minds and spirits of his audience when he noted amongst others that the priestly office is best exercised when it is well-conceived or viewed as if with the mind of Christ. The resulting effort put in work will ensure that the priest sees himself as a servant and his Ministry as one of selfless service. Any other thing void of this makes the priest a little idol who only manipulates or exerts control over ignorant people to reap a harvest sweet only to them.
It was indeed a Spiritual Recollection as after the main and lone input of the day, the priests and Deacons had enough time to pray, reflect, and celebrate the sacrament of Confession.
At the end of the program, Fr Charles Mbuntum, the Dean of Kumbo expressed many thanks to Fr. Shang for the preparation and presentation.
At the end of it all, after lunch, the clerics departed. Such Spiritual moments are important to refresh my mind and renew the zest of pastoral work.
